CAEDHH Certification is independent of CAEDHH membership.
CAEDHH strives to have all graduates of a Teacher Training Program in Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing certified according to the professional Certification Standards.
It is a major objective of CAEDHH to have all Ministries of Education in the Provinces and Territories recognize CAEDHH Certification Standards as the minimum measure of professional knowledge and skills in hiring teachers of individuals who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. CAEDHH Certification Standards are consistent with internationally held standards. CAEDHH advocates for the hiring of CAEDHH Certified teacher specialist as the most appropriate educational specialist personnel to work with individuals who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.
The internationally derived CAEDHH Certification Standards serve as a guideline to universities in the development of teacher training programs in Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing that will allow educators to meet the knowledge and skill requirements at the beginner's level.
Applications for Certification are reviewed on an individual basis by the Certification Standards Committee. For applicants who fulfill the certification requirements, Interim Certification is offered initially, followed by Permanent Certification after two successful years of teaching students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing as endorsed by a Supervisor or designate.
The CAEDHH Certification Committee is made up of representatives from the CAEDHH membership, the CAEDHH executive, and the university teacher training programs in Education of the Deaf. The Certification Committee meets twice yearly.
